Mike Hinge - Valentine Heart. Marker pen on white paper. Approximate size 25x31cm. Date unknown. Unsigned.
Have you ever seen Hinge's rough sketches? Stuff like this can't be done without planning. First you have to decide on the overal design and shapes, then carefully draw the 'labirynth' and think what would be on the top of it. The main theme seems to be cards of every stripe, but they look decidedly phallic. At the same time the overall message is positive due to colors and suggested movement upwards like a salute.
Hi Pinwizz It's a mystery what the design was intended. I thought perhaps it was intended for a magazine illustration or Valentine card for someone that likes to play cards!! Could also be a t-shirt design..
I haven't seen any sketches for this maze. I do have another maze that's similar in construction and is on the blog "Mike Hinge 002". On this picture I can see some initial pencil marks and his method seems bogglingly complex...
